About Us

Founded in 2010, at a time when South Africa was abuzz in anticipation of the Soccer World Cup, the restaurant industry was abuzz about this new style of Garnishing and boosting a plates flavor with delicate Micro Herbs and Micro Greens.

We had just moved out to the Hills of the farming community of Drummond. I was introduced to Micro Herbs without any knowledge of what they actually were. I had always loved cooking and when I started using them was amazed by the powerful punch in flavor of these small “Plants”. And so, the journey of learning and experimenting to get just the right mix to be able to produce a good quality product began.

We began with a range of 8 varieties of Micro herbs / Micro Greens, our first customer was one of Durban’s leading restaurants. Soon we had grown to supplying most of Durban’s top fine Dining establishments and our Micro product range had grown to 26 different varieties.

Herbs on the hill became a major supplier in the greater Durban area and into the Natal Midlands of Micro greens. As our relationship with some of Durban’s top Chefs developed, together we began to collaborate to source more interesting products to add life, flavor, and color to their dishes. We began to source seed, and test plant numerous Heirloom vegetable varieties for the Restaurant / Catering / Hospitality Industry, and again became the leading suppliers of these products in Kwazulu-Natal.

Our commitment has always been to supply a good quality product, utilizing organic growing principles, support small business and local community growing projects, applying ethical policies, all combined with exceptional service.

Over the years we have developed strong relationships with our customers, growers, and suppliers to the extent that they are seen more as family, with Herbs on the hill as an extension of their business. We have worked closely with our chefs when it comes to Menu design, in line with seasonal availability of produce, and finding new exciting and creative products.

Covid-19 brought about major changes for everyone and has resulted in many of us having to adapt. Our first change began with starting to deliver direct to homes. No longer does the individual have to go out to experience these amazing products. Now you can experience them in your own home. We saw how many people’s incomes had dried up, especially those who ran small home-based businesses producing Artisan food products at various markets. Social distancing resulted in their outlets being closed down and revenue sources ended abruptly. Personally, we missed these products. The sauces, jams, pickles, breads and much more. In our commitment to small business, these products along with some of our top Chefs’ own masterful creations are now available to be brought direct to your homes.

Currently there are 15 local, small businesses able to support their families through these home deliveries with the number increasing as we find new products to add to our range.

Our mission is to help families, friends, and communities to feed one another, by bringing exciting and tasty quality products into your home and business, at affordable prices, with great service.
